here's the thing. always always always get a receipt when you buy something because you never know when the finace police are going to jump out of nowhere (though you're going to think they're a gypsy begging for money) and demand you show them what's in your bags with proof of purchase.
this regular looking guy with glasses grabbed my arm (because i kept walking...thinking he was a beggar...) and got angrier and angrier in italian. finally i gave him a half smile and said 'non ho capito.' ahhh he understood. 'non sei italiana?' 'no.' 'ok there ees no problaim for youu, just for the vendor.' what a relief. so the vendor i bought tights from got a big ol' fine since he didnt give me a receipt and since i'm a foreigner i didnt, though it would have been a doosie otherwise.
so just a little advice whilst buying things in countries that aren't yours. receipts.
