Art in Fashion, Art as Fashion, Art is Fashion

This was my life in school and is still one of my favorite things. I'm so glad I found it.

Bear Lake

We took a weekend trip mid July to Bear Lake. Mom, Dad, Riley, Regina and I drove together from Jackson. Poor Todd had to work night audit shifts all week and weekend so he didn't get to come. Annie and Chase came from Rexburg to meet us. We camped, sailed, played games and swam. Chase and I wrestled one another off the boat just like when we were little, only now no one ends up crying.

Regina loves campfires and her pretty aunt Annie.
The sunset had such intense lines of color.

I really love my family.

Riley is such a cute uncle.

Megan Came to Town

The first time Regina met her fabulous auntie Megan.

Megan and I spent a morning at String Lake.

Reading about colors. Megan is such a wonderful aunt and my best friend.

First time my baby went to the beach...er...lake.

Stacy (Megan's mom) with family friend Will holding Reggie.

Todd, Will, Megan and Regina sitting on the car before the fireworks in Driggs, Idaho.

We found Stephanie Goodson (Megan's roommate from freshman year at BYU)!

Addie loves snuggling with Reggie Bear.

Hike to Hidden Falls (Jenny Lake, Grand Teton National Park)

In front of the falls. Todd's awkward pose and Reggie's adorable excited face.

The building blocks of a tree. Bright orange and red and crumbly.

Jenny Lake. Sigh. Summer in Wyoming.

Regina was so tired from her excitement during our three hour hike that she slept most of the way back. I love her wiped out face plant.

For a while Reggie would have these freak outs in the evenings where she was overly tired and needed a nap. Todd discovered an effective way to rock the baby while not exhausting your arm strength where you use tie-downs to hang her car seat from a tree. (feat. little bro. Riley on the swing)

Evan and Kari's Wedding

Two of Todd's sisters, Lisa and Debbi, waiting for the ceremony.
Todd's brother Jason and with my cute neice and nephew, Paishance and Damion.
Todd's sister, Michelle with husband, Ben, baby Hazel and Loren. Mich and I were dressed a lot alike and our baby girls were matching too. No one took a photo of the four of us though...

The bride and groom. They refused to pose like normals for me.

A few Carman boys: Eric, Jason, Jeff, Todd

One of my favorite photos. My tiny Regina and her Poppa Carman.

There were a lot more people there than I took photos of, and even more that couldn't make it to Utah. The weather was hot and the backyard and garden they were married in was beautiful! Todd was the officiator for his baby brother and bride and the speech he wrote was truthful and lovely. I'm so proud to be his wife.

In between the wedding ceremony and the reception we went shopping for wedding gifts and stopped at the Art City doughnut truck for a treat. Strawberry shortcake and french toast.

This evening Todd and I were caught in a rain and hail storm after going out into Grand Teton National Park. We were wearing clothes over our bathing suits. The rain was coming down so hard I was afraid to get out of the car. He ran inside and came back to the car wearing only his swim suit, a large blanket over his head, and a big smile. He held the blanket to shelter us both as we ran through the downpour and into the house. We put the baby down and went back outside to sit in the hot tub and let the rain fall on our heads and faces. It was glorious.

Dream Careers

I received a newsletter update from the BYU Art History Department filled with wonderful things about the students', professors' and alumni's study, research, art history work, study abroad, grants, travel, museums, fashion, conferences, speakers and more. Why does it make me so sad to hear about their updates and success?! I feel an intense jealousy of their lives and depression about my own (job-wise, not about my wonderful husband, or beautiful babe). I yearn to be back in that wonderful environment, surrounded by extremely intelligent and interesting professors, subject matter, and friends who need share nothing more than the love of art history and its facets.

I want to go back to school and get my PhD.
I want to teach art history at a university.
I want to go to hair school.
I want to be a fashion illustrator.
I want to be an editor for Nylon, or Vogue.
I want to paint for a living.

old news, but news just the same

Todd got into the Masters of Business Administration program at Boise State University! We are moving to Boise in August. We're still not entirely sure how/when/in what order we are going to move out of our studio here in Jackson, move our stuff out of my parents' shed and garage, move our furniture and books out of storage in Provo and move into a new place in Boise.

I am very much looking forward to living in a larger city with museums (plural!), good ( affordable) restaurants, bowling alleys, arcades, a dollar theater, outdoor swimming pools, bike paths, a much more moderate climate, etc. I don't love blue and orange together, but I'll have to get used to it.
