All night last night I was very anxious about Todd not making it in time for his interview (having to drive from JFK to Connecticut in morning traffic after a red eye and no sleep). I would wake up every few hours and check the traffic where he was and wonder if he was doing alright. Once when I woke up I saw that my mom's light was on in her room so I went and crawled in bed with her. She couldn't sleep either, worrying about my dad who was in Salt Lake at the Heart Failure Clinic seeing a specialist, which he seems to be doing a lot lately.

Even though we were both haggard it was nice to be close to her. I've been feeling the baby wiggle and move all week, but didn't think they were strong enough to feel them from the outside. Baby was extra wiggly this morning so I had my mom place her hand on my belly and she felt movement! Her first, tiny grand baby moving and dancing and wriggling so my mom could feel her and know she's there and okay. My mom gets very animated and screams when she is excited and I love her for that. Even at 6am.

Three generations of women who love each other all slept in the same bed this morning.

Baby I can feel you move.

my voice

"She is getting used to the sound of your voice - and Dad's too - every time you talk to each other or someone else. That's why infants seem to recognize and respond to their parents' voices at birth. Your voice, because it is heard not only from outside but from inside, is especially familiar, and appears to be comforting, too. Research shows that a fetus's heart rate slows in response to its mother's voice, suggesting that babies are soothed by their moms even before birth."

Truer Words?

My Pretty Babe

I was looking at 20 week ultrasounds last week on Google image search thinking they all looked pretty much the same. Now that I have my own images I'm inclined to think my wee girl is cuter. It's happening. I'm one of those people I never thought I'd be.

A Darling, Wonderful, Tiny, Scrumptious Baby Girl

We had our doctor write down the sex of the baby on a piece of paper and took that paper to Persephone Bakery where we asked them to bake us a cake with blue or pink inside depending on what the doctor had written. This way we could share the surprise and this sweet moment with our dear family and friends rather than in the office with a doctor we didn't know. I cried (obviously) and my mom kept screaming "IT'S PINK! IT'S PINK!" I was pretty sure it was blue because all I could see while cutting the cake was bluish funfetti in the top layer.

A surprise, indeed. A beautiful, tiny, glowing, growing surprise.

True Love

Todd and I both woke up to pee at 4:45 this morning. When we got back to bed we stayed up talking and laughing our heads off for an hour. Finally, we had to force ourselves to be quiet so we could get some sleep before our doctor appointment this morning.
