This evening Todd and I were caught in a rain and hail storm after going out into Grand Teton National Park. We were wearing clothes over our bathing suits. The rain was coming down so hard I was afraid to get out of the car. He ran inside and came back to the car wearing only his swim suit, a large blanket over his head, and a big smile. He held the blanket to shelter us both as we ran through the downpour and into the house. We put the baby down and went back outside to sit in the hot tub and let the rain fall on our heads and faces. It was glorious.

old news, but news just the same

Todd got into the Masters of Business Administration program at Boise State University! We are moving to Boise in August. We're still not entirely sure how/when/in what order we are going to move out of our studio here in Jackson, move our stuff out of my parents' shed and garage, move our furniture and books out of storage in Provo and move into a new place in Boise.

I am very much looking forward to living in a larger city with museums (plural!), good ( affordable) restaurants, bowling alleys, arcades, a dollar theater, outdoor swimming pools, bike paths, a much more moderate climate, etc. I don't love blue and orange together, but I'll have to get used to it.

Morning Sunshine

There is nothing I love more than waking up to the sunshine in a warm room next to my sleeping husband.

Some Gratitude

I have a wonderful life. I have parents who are kind and patient. They love me and my husband. They like to spend time with us and are so easy going that seeing them, staying with them, being with them is easy and enjoyable. I love seeing the way Todd treats my mom. Sometimes he snuggles her more than I do. It is really important to me that the people who I love most get along and they don't even just tolerate one another, but they love each other. I love knowing that I can sleep, or go to work for 10 hours and Todd will be happy spending time with Riley, or Chase, or Dad or Mom. I love having such a thoughtful and strong group of loved ones around me, especially when this tiny child is coming so soon. I know I will have people to cry to, to depend upon, and who will understand, love and help me.

True Love

Todd and I both woke up to pee at 4:45 this morning. When we got back to bed we stayed up talking and laughing our heads off for an hour. Finally, we had to force ourselves to be quiet so we could get some sleep before our doctor appointment this morning.

Todd and I both said, "That's so nectar" at the same time the other night (Schmidt).
After Todd slurped a strand of mango he and I both said, "slimy, yet satisfying."
We are the same.

Late Night Chat

Last night Todd and I both woke up around 4 am for no particular reason. We stayed up for at least an hour talking about really important things. He said such amazing and sweet things to me that I really needed to hear. We discussed matters fundamental to a healthy relationship and belief system and it was reassuring to see that we are both on the same page. We agree wholeheartedly on things that matter and I felt such strength listening to him and confidence in expressing myself. These were words that probably wouldn't have been exchanged during the day when we're busy making meals, tidying the house and heading off to work. Our dinner dates usually include good and important conversation, but dinners alone are rare (and Jackson Hole is found lacking in restaurants that are both good and reasonably priced).

Fun Parent Award

Todd always lets me buy, or because I am the cheap and reluctant one, makes me buy, anything I want. This is one of the reasons you know he is going to be the fun parent and I the overprotective, stingy-with-money, worrier and fun-sucking parent.

Baby Carman

Ever since this album came out the summer Todd and I were wed, I have loved this song and imagined that it was about us and our little one. I think one day Todd and I and babe will go to a sunny sunny white beach with no people and we will listen to this song and be a happy tiny family.

the happiest i've ever seen beyoncé

Todd is the husband of the year. He's the husband of a/my lifetime. He worked with me from 8pm all night to 10am on my thesis paper. I never really understand how. I don't know how he can handle it. I am always an emotional wreck and basket case who feels suicidal around 3am. I fear I have become too reliant on him when it comes to my assignments. It's like when I was in middle school and I just needed my mom to sit in the chair beside me so I could do my homework. She didn't even need to help, just sit quietly and supportively by. Anyway, I don't know why he does the most boring, tedious, and laborious things to help me out. I hope that I do things like that for someone...maybe. Maybe I don't...but I hope someone appreciates what I do for them as much as I appreciate Todd for what he does for me.

This is how I feel about him:

Howl's Moving Castle

Todd says, "What's that movie? Captain Bart's Flying Jungle?"

Todd says...

After I had put on my yoga pants, grabbed my mat and was exiting our bedroom, Todd said (with his eyes closed and still in bed), "Hey, Hill. I want a piece of that A."

a real friday night

Todd and I went to sushi in SLC last night with my lovely B Dahlin and her date, Ryan Beck. It was absolutely delicious and they were great company. Afterwards, we went to see Verdi's Il Trovatore at the Capitol Theater all dressed up, held hands and had a loverly time. I feel like city lights are magical and I am so excited to move somewhere for our next adventure together.

Logic and reason

Todd after breakfast: ...but I don't want to go to school.
Me: Todd, it's only for one hour.
Todd: Yeah, but you have two boobs.

September 14/15

Last night I made these cookies http://www.ambitiouskitchen.com/2012/09/nutella-stuffed-brown-butter-sea-salt-chocolate-chip-cookies-my-favorite-cookie-ever/ (I don't know how to do fancy links in words things) to take to the movies with Todd. We were supposed to see Sabrina, the old one, but it was sold out. We came home and played Super Smash Bros. After a while I asked if Todd wanted to go out to do something else. We decided to go camping. We took the benches out of our van and made a bed and took food and water and Todd's laptop for watching BBC Sherlock.
We drove up Squaw Peak trail on a "dirt road" that was really a rock/pothole road. It was out in the boonies and it is necessary to drive super slowly. We had a good four hour sleep, awoke at six am so we could hike what was supposed to be one hour to the top of Provo Peak to see the sunrise. Long story short, it took three hours to get to the top = not enough food or water, we missed the sunrise, it was incredibly steep and full of rock-slide slate-type rocks (so I complained a lot like a good wife), two hours to get down, and a flat tire on the way home on the rock road. Niiiiiiice.

At least fall in Utah is wowzer gorgeous.

cute boys

Sometimes Todd just talks to make noise, but sometimes it turns out so cute.
"Hillary, I am the way that I am...because I was born in love with you. So...we can have babies and live forever and go to Never Never Land. Togetherland."
