allora, i went to rome. and HO-LY-CRAP. was it amazing. i loved loved paris and want to live there still. but i really fell hard for rome and i am finding it difficult to choose where to live after i graduate. paris. rome. paris? or rome. non lo so. anyways, it was magical. all the gelato. all the friends i made. all the sights. the ancient ancient sights just amongst the new buildings and peoples everyday lives. it's incredible. the colosseum by night, in the rain was by far my favorite feeling. not a person around. just the sound of rain, the reflection off the cobblestones, the grand stadium with its arches lit, and me and my umbrella. well...the sistine chapel was awe-inspiring also. i sat an stared until my neck couldn't take it. then i sat down and stared until the museum closed. but the frescoes are incredible. michelangelo was a genius. just comparing the ornate and incredible entrance to his work. there was no comparison. the way he painted, his dimensions, his brain as an architect and sculptor helped i'm sure. the sizes of everything made for one incredible feeling, though it seems daunting at first it does not feel overwhelming. it was beautiful. all the rooms before it were too complex. the paintings were too small. too much detail that the eye is like "well, you seen one you seen 'em all." but in the sistine chapel you can fall into one scene and after a while feel guided to the next.
i got to channel my audrey hepburn whilst eating gelato and sitting on the spanish steps.
another incredible thing, as soon as we got to our hostel we met american boys who were able to show us around and pretty much take care of us. we were never alone without at least one boy and i think i would have been a lot more wary and scared to go out at night. instead, this way we did everything we wanted all day and all night because we didn't have to worry. God does love me and takes the best care of me! giving me free tour guides and new friends on my weekends in italian cities. i am a lucky duck. lucky lucky. (whose boyfriend comes home in 40 days. hollah!)
